The Wire’s Dominic West will star in Jez Butterworth’s latest play The River when it opens at the Royal Court this autumn.

The Butley star, whose extensive theatre credits include As You Like It, The Voysey Inheritance and Life Is A Dream, will be joined by two actresses who have recently been seen on stage in productions at the Donmar Warehouse.

The Physicists’ Miranda Raison, who has previously starred in Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII at Shakespeare’s Globe, and Laura Donnelly, who can currently be seen in Brian Friel’s Philadelphia, Here I Come!, will appear alongside West in the highly anticipated production, which reunites the award-winning team behind stage phenomenon Jerusalem.

Directed by Ian Rickson with designs by Ultz, Butterworth’s story of a man, a woman and a remote cabin on the cliffs will play from 18 October to 17 November in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs.

Unusually, there will be no tickets for the production available for advanced purchase. Tickets will go on sale online at 09:00 and at the Royal Court box office at 10:00 on the day of the performance.
