Video: Playing Billy Elliot

First Published 15 July 2014, Last Updated 21 July 2014

Last night, 12-year-old Ollie Jochim took to the West End stage for the first time to become the 38th young star to play the title role in West End hit Billy Elliot The Musical.

Alternating the role with four other Billys, Jochim joins the ranks of an increasingly long list of hugely talented young performances to lead one of London’s most popular and demanding musicals, which requires anyone taking on the coveted role to sing, tap, pirouette and even breakdance their way into audiences’ hearts.

But what exactly does it take to win a part in Billy Elliot The Musical and how did a 12-year-old from Essex end up on stage? From dancing to his Dad’s Michael Jackson CDs to a life-changing trip to see the show on his 10th birthday, find out more about one boy’s journey to the world of Billy Elliot in the video above.

You can book tickets to see the show, which is now booking until 19 December 2015, through us here.
