For fans of Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, this news is going to be simply the best…(we’re sorry, it had to be done). There’s going to be an original cast album released!

Earlier this month, the musical released their first single to download and stream. River Deep – Mountain High was recorded at Angel Studios last month, produced by the show’s Musical Supervisor, Nicholas Skilbeck.

Now a second single has now been announced, as a treat to the eager fans who’ve still got a few more weeks to wait for the full album. Called The Hunter, it features the incredible voice of Olivier Award-nominated actor Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (who plays Ike Turner). The Hunter is now available to stream and download here.

The album will be released for digital download and streaming on Friday 29 March 2019, with a physical CD to be released at a later date. Customers who pre-order the digital album will immediately receive a download of  The Hunter along with the first single River Deep – Mountain High.

Tina – The Tina Turner Musical’s Arrangements, Additional Music and Musical Supervisor, Nicholas Skilbeck says, The Hunter was originally recorded by Ike and Tina Turner at the end of the 1960s and saw Tina’s first R&B Vocal Performance Grammy nomination. Ike Turner was a music revolutionary, considered by some, to be the father of rock n roll…We repositioned the song to be performed by Ike Turner (Kobna Holdbrook-Smith) and The Kings of Rhythm live at Club Manhattan in St. Louis in the 1950s, show-casing Ike’s musical genius and his role in creating the sound of tomorrow.

“When recording, the idea was to give this song a vintage quality but as though it had never been heard before, the listener is thrust back in time, into the raw energy of an early rock and roll gig, as if witnesses at the birth of the music revolution. Like our “River Deep-Mountain High” recording, it’s very much about feeling you are in the room with the music, Kobna, Adrienne, the band and having that visceral connection to it.”

The album’s track list will be:

  1. Etherland
  2. Nutbush City Limits
  3. Don’t Turn Around
  4. Shake a Tailfeather
  5. The Hunter
  6. Matchbox
  7. It’s Gonna Work Out Fine
  8. A Fool in Love
  9. Let’s Stay Together

  12. River Deep – Mountain High
  13. Be Tender with Me Baby
  14. Proud Mary
  15. I Don’t Wanna Fight
  16. Private Dancer
  17. Disco Inferno
  18. Open Arms
  19. I Can’t Stand the Rain

Tina Turner said about of the album’s announcement: “It is a privilege to have our show playing to full houses here in London night after night. I’m so looking forward to the release of our cast album, so we can share the music and also the way the songs tell my story. This was my biggest surprise in the making of the musical – I never realised my songs captured the life I was living.

“I’m turning 80 this year, and it’s a time for looking back. I’ve loved working with my producers, Phyllida, Katori, our creative team and of course this incredible cast led by Adrienne and Kobna. Together they found the love, and I am grateful.”

Playing at the Aldwych Theatre, Tina – The Tina Turner Musicals documents the incredible career of singer Tina Turner. From her humble beginnings in Tennessee to her transformation into the iconic Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, this show is full of emotion, heart and absolute tunes. We guarantee you’ll be singing her songs for weeks afterwards…

Presented in association with Tina herself, directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, the show has broken all box office records since its arrival in Theatreland last April.

And the good news keeps on rolling (rolling), as the show recently announced that 200,000 new tickets went on sale. So whether you’re yet to see this incredible show, or you want to watch it again for the 200th time, (hey, we aren’t judging), there will be more opportunities to see it.

A new cast for the show’s second year was recently announced. However, Adrienne Warren and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith aren’t going anywhere just yet, as they’re continuing in their roles of Tina and Ike Turner until 13 April 2019.
