Interview: Tina Arena

First Published 17 April 2008, Last Updated 30 May 2018

Singer, songwriter and musical star Tina Arena has been entertaining since she was knee-high to a wombat, kicking off her career as a seven-year-old on Australian variety show Young Talent Time in 1977. Three decades later, and with a host of hit records behind her, Arena is back in the West End, where she made her debut in 2000 in Notre Dame De Paris. This time around she plays murderous showgirl Roxie Hart in Chicago at the Cambridge. TheatreRadio's Tim McArthur met Arena to record this new interview.

In this audio download Arena, who plays Roxie until 5 May, chats to McArthur about the process of playing Roxie, why she thinks Chicago is so popular and her experience of performing at a young age on Young Talent Time. She also shares her frank views on the rise of technology in both music and theatre, and how it threatens the industries she loves.

The interview can be downloaded from the audio download page or at the bottom of this article, and can be listened to on your PC, Mac or any handy MP3 player.
