GILT2015 – Commitments

The Commitments production shot

The Commitments extends to September

Published 18 December 2014

The Palace Theatre will continue to pump out soul classics well into 2015 with the announcement that hit show The Commitments has extended its booking period until 13 September.

The production’s second extension since its premiere in November 2013 means that thousands more theatregoers will have the chance to see the musical based on Roddy Doyle’s best-selling novel.

The show currently features a cast including Brian Gilligan, who replaced Killian Donnelly as Deco in September this year after playing Billy ‘The Animal’ Mooney when the production first opened.

Directed by Jamie Lloyd, whose Trafalgar Transformed production of black comedy The Ruling Class will welcome James McAvoy back to the West End in January, The Commitments is packed full of soul classics, from Aretha Franklin’s Thing and The Rolling Stones’ (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction to Wilson Pickett’s The Midnight Hour and Marvin Gaye’s I Heard It Through The Grapevine.

Set to this soundtrack of soul classics, the show tells the story of young working class music fan Jimmy Rabbitte who shapes an unlikely band of amateur musicians into the finest soul band Dublin has ever produced.

The Commitments is taking part in our annual discount ticket promotion Get Into London Theatre, which is on sale now and offering tickets for performances from 1 January to 13 February from £20.

If you’ve snapped up one of those tickets and are waiting in anticipation until your visit to the Palace Theatre in the new year, whet your appetite with The Commitments’ latest video in which the cast helps you get into the Christmas spirit.
