St James gets Thrill Of Love

Published 8 February 2013

James Dacre’s production of Amanda Whittington’s new play The Thrill Of Love will transfer to the St James theatre next month following its world premiere at Newcastle-Under-Lyme’s New Vic theatre.

Playing from 27 March to 4 May, The Thrill Of Love tells the story of Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be executed in the United Kingdom, after she is convicted of murdering her lover David Blakely, and features music by Billie Holiday.

The show’s original cast, which includes Faye Castelow, Hilary Tones, Maya Wasovicz and Katie West will transfer with the production.

Former Artistic Associate of the New Vic theatre, Dacre’s directing credits include Katori Hall’s Olivier Award-winning play The Mountaintop, As You Like It at Shakespeare’s Globe and King James Bible at the National Theatre.

In order to heighten the audience’s experience of the production, the St James theatre is offering £15 stage seats, which will allow certain audience members a unique look at the underworld of 1950s London.

The Thrill Of Love will open at the St James theatre following Out Of Joint’s Our Country’s Good, which plays until 23 March.
