Phil Daniels joins Les Misérables

Phil Daniels, Jeremy Secomb and Rachelle Ann Go will join Cameron Mackintosh’s legendary production of Les Misérables when the hit musical welcomes a new cast of Lovely Ladies (and gentlemen) on 15 June.

Former EastEnders star Daniels, who returns to the London stage following recent roles in The Knight Of The Burning Pestle and Antony And Cleopatra at Shakespeare’s Globe, will take on the role of Les Mis’ menacing inn-owner Thénardier.

He will be joined by Katy Secombe, who has not only previously played Madame Thénardier in the London production but also starred as Madame Huchloup in the 2012 film adaptation, as his female sidekick.

The actress’ namesake Secomb, who is currently playing the title role in Tooting Arts Club’s production of Sweeney Todd, staged in a real pie and mash shop on Shaftesbury Avenue, will replace Olivier Award winner David Thaxton as Javert.

Secomb’s Sweeney Todd co-star Zoë Doano will also join the new cast, taking on the role of Cosette.

Go swaps one Boublil and Schönberg for another as she takes to the stage of the Queen’s Theatre as Fantine, having recently played Gigi in another of Mackintosh’s West End hits, Miss Saigon.

The quintet of new performers joins a cast that currently includes Peter Lockyer, Rob Houchen, Carrie Hope Fletcher and Bradley Jaden, who will move into the role of Enjolras from the ensemble.

Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, Boublil and Schönberg’s world-renowned musical tells an epic tale of passion and destruction set amid the social and political struggles of 19th century France. It features many of musical theatre’s best loved songs including I Dreamed A Dream, One Day More and On My Own.

Now in its 30th year, Les Misérables is booking at the Queen’s Theatre until 26 March 2016.
