One of this year’s Olivier Award nominated productions, Alice’s Adventures Underground, has announced it will return next spring for a limited five month run.
Guests will once again be invited down the rabbit hole for the immersive experience from April 2017 at Waterloo venue The Vaults.
Also returning alongside the Best Entertainment & Family Olivier Award nominated show is its children’s companion piece, Adventures In Wonderland for audiences aged five to 11-years-old.
Talking about the critically acclaimed hit’s return, Emma Brünjes, who produced the show alongside theatre company Les Enfants Terribles, said: “In 2015 we welcomed over 100,000 visitors to our hugely successful underground wonderland, proving that challenging traditional perceptions of theatre pays off. Our aim was to create an experience that combined storytelling with sensory immersion and could be enjoyed by all, and our Olivier nomination is testament to us having achieved that.
“We couldn’t be more excited about bringing these two shows back next year for those who missed out first time around, and for those who want to return for a second dose of madness.”
The shows were originally programmed to mark the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s classic novel, with adult audiences in Alice’s Adventures Underground given the choice of choosing either a EAT ME or DRINK ME journey through a show packed with storytelling, live music and circus, while children were given the chance to interact with the story’s famous characters in Adventures In Wonderland.
Alice’s Adventures Underground, which was beaten to an Olivier Award this weekend by Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, received an outpour of critical acclaim when it premiered last summer, with the Observer describing it as “perfect for adults who have forgotten what it is to play”.
