BBC have announced today that they will turn Victor Hugo’s famous novel into a six-part drama on BBC One.
Les Misérables will be adapted for the television by BAFTA winner Andrew Davies, the screenwriter behind Netflix’s House Of Cards and the Bridget Jones films.
Hugo’s novel was originally published in 1862, and was the inspiration for the legendary musical which has been running for nearly 31 years in London, and has been seen by more than 70 million people in 44 countries and in 22 languages around the globe.
Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.
