J.T. Rogers talks West End Oslo transfer

First Published 27 September 2017, Last Updated 28 September 2017

J.T. Rogers, writer of the award winning and critically acclaimed new play Oslo, will be giving an exclusive ‘in conversation’ talk at JW3’s Sunday Night Live speaker series on the evening of 8 October.

The play tells the true story of two maverick Norwegian diplomats who coordinated top secret talks between Israeli and Palestinian leaders and inspired seemingly impossible friendships. Their quiet heroics led to the ground-breaking Oslo Peace Accords and for the first time the recognition of the state of Israel by the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) and Israel’s recognition of the PLO.

Speaking to James Harding, Director of BBC News and former editor of The Times, Rogers will discuss the origins of the play and the motivation behind the negotiations in a Norwegian castle which led to the historic handshake on the White House lawn in 1993.

The evening will also concentrate on looking at the Oslo Accords and their legacy, particularly as we approach the milestone 100th anniversary of the historic Balfour Declaration as well as looking at issues around how human characters and relationships affect geopolitics, international negotiations and diplomacy, in light of the current political climate.

You can book tickets to the evening through the event’s website.

Oslo will be playing at the Harold Pinter Theatre on London’s West End from 2 October, following its sold-out run at the National Theatre and a Tony Award-winning run on Broadway, where it won for Best Play.
