In rehearsal: The Painkiller

First Published 1 March 2016, Last Updated 2 March 2016

Take one Olivier Award-winning actor, throw in one of the UK’s best loved bittersweet comedic performers and add one very scary looking gun. Yep, we were surprised by the last bit as well but, from the looks of these photos of rehearsals above, The Painkiller takes the last two syllables of its title literally.

Kenneth Branagh and Rob Brydon are bringing their acclaimed performances in Francis Veber’s classic French farce to the London stage as part of Branagh’s inaugural Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company season at the Garrick. First seen at Ireland’s Lyric Theatre in 2011, the pair were hailed a comic tour-de-force and we now only have days before we’ll be able to catch them at the Garrick Theatre.

So, what else can we glean from the photos Johan Persson took in the rehearsal room? An equally scary hypodermic needle features, as does some well-choreographed telephone scenes. So not much, but luckily we only have until Saturday’s first preview to get the full picture.

The Painkiller plays from 5 March at the Garrick Theatre. You can book tickets through us here.
