In rehearsal: Splendour

First Published 7 July 2015, Last Updated 7 July 2015

In a rehearsal room used by the Donmar Warehouse, four performers await the return of the director…

Okay, so that may or may not be what’s happening in Johan Persson’s rehearsal images for the venue’s forthcoming production of Abi Morgan’s Splendour, but there certainly does seem to be a lot of waiting going on…

More likely that’s because that’s what they’ll be doing when they take to the stage in Abi Morgan’s play later this month. Set in an opulent drawing room of a Presidential Palace, Splendour follows a photojournalist as she awaits the return of the dictator. OH! Now you see where we’re going with this.

With her awaits the dictator’s wife, her best friend and an interpreter. He is late, very late. Director Robert Hastie would, obviously, always be on time to rehearsals. Certainly his surname would suggest so.

The production, which stars Genevieve O’Reilly, Zawe Ashton, Sinéad Cusack and Michelle Fairley, begins previews at the Donmar Warehouse on 30 July, when it promises to give audiences a glimpse into the minds of four women as their world turns.

Until then, we can give you a glimpse into the show’s rehearsal room in our gallery above.
