In rehearsal: High Society

First Published 30 April 2015, Last Updated 30 April 2015

A revival of a classic Cole Porter musical was always going to put us in high spirits.

Finding out that Maria Friedman, the woman behind the Menier Chocolate Factory’s Olivier Award-winning hit Merrily We Roll Along, would be at the helm of the production set some pretty high expectations.

And discovering that Kate Fleetwood would lead the cast as Tracy Lord was definitely a high point while we waited, in high anticipation, for the musical to arrive on The Old Vic’s stage.

It was, therefore, high time we received some exciting rehearsal images so that we could see how preparations for High Society were going.

Turns out there was no time for high tea – only empty glasses – in this rehearsal room. There was, however, the sign of a few high lifts as the cast, which also includes Jamie Parker, Annabel Scholey and Barbara Flynn, prepare to tell the musical tale of a Long Island socialite whose wedding plans are disrupted by the arrival of rival suitors.

To find out whether they hit the high notes – highly likely, we’d say – when they take to The Old Vic stage from tonight, you’ll have to see (and hear) for yourselves by hightailing it to the Waterloo venue before 22 August. Thankfully we’re here to help you out, as you can book tickets through us high… sorry here.
