Hampstead Theatre streams Wild live and free

First Published 19 July 2016, Last Updated 19 July 2016

The final night of Mike Bartlett’s whistle-blowing dark comedy Wild is to be streamed live from the Hampstead Theatre, online, worldwide and for free.

From 19:30 BST on Saturday 23 July, members of the public will be able to watch the mystery thriller online and worldwide through the Hampstead Theatre website. An on-demand version of the free stream will then be available to view for 72 hours immediately after the event.

Drawing parallels with similar events of recent times, Wild explores the life-changing consequences of challenging the global status quo with just the press of a button. With technology and the State shaping one another’s growing power, where do the self-appointed protectors of the rights of the citizen stand? Are they heroes, or traitors?

Of the announcement, playwright Mike Barlett commented, “I’m hugely excited to see Wild free-streamed online. Amongst other things, the play is about role of the internet in democratising information and opening up to hitherto private rooms. In that way, this feels like the ideal way for this production to reach a wider audience – completely free of charge”.

Artistic Director Edward Hall said, “I am delighted that Wild is to join the body of work already shown in Hampstead Theatre’s free-streaming programme. Since our first free-stream in 2013, of Howard Brenton’s The Arrest of Ai Weiwei, we have attracted over 60,000 views in over 80 countries.

“I’m immensely proud that Hampstead continues to provide this free access to high quality theatre and we will endeavour to continue to do so whenever financially viable.”

To purchase tickets for the final week of Wild performances, visit the venue’s website.
