Gaumond will Rock You

Canadian stage star Alex Gaumond, who recently left the London production of Legally Blonde The Musical, is to return to the West End stage in hit Queen musical We Will Rock You.

The leading man, who received an Olivier Award nomination earlier this year for his performance as Emmett in Legally Blonde The Musical, is to replace Ricardo Afonso as Galileo from 8 August.

While it is a big leap from the pink perkiness of Legally Blonde The Musical to the leather-clad rock of We Will Rock You, which sets the music of British band Queen amid a futuristic tale of a world where individuality and originality is banned, Gaumond is no newbie, having previously played the role on tour.

Speaking about the casting, Queen guitarist and the show’s co-creator Brian May said: “Alex is a superb actor and his interpretation of Galileo on tour in the UK was a huge hit with audiences. We look forward to a new triumph in the Dominion, in WWRY’s tenth year.”

We Will Rock You royalty, actress Mazz Murray will return to the show alongside Gaumond for two special weeks from 8 to 20 August, to say goodbye to the evil Killer Queen, a role she played from May 2004 to June 2010, when she left the production to have a baby.

We Will Rock You, which features a score including Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody and Radio GaGa, is now in its tenth year of guitar-thrashing denim-wearing entertainment at London’s Dominion theatre.
