First look: Jude at the Hampstead Theatre

For well you know that it’s a fool who plays it cool, so we won’t pretend that we’re not excited about Howard Brenton’s latest work, Jude, which will be playing at Hampstead Theatre later this month.

This brand-new work from the prolific playwright tells the story of Jude – a cleaner whose job is under threat when she’s caught stealing a copy of Euripides. But when Jude translates the Ancient Greek text on the spot, her employer – a Classics teacher – transforms his anger into awe and tries to help make Jude’s dream of going to Oxford University a reality. But Jude’s natural gift for languages and ambition haven’t prepared her for the hidden barriers that her background has placed in her path…

Before the curtains rise on the world premiere, we’ve got a sneak peek at the rehearsals for the upcoming show.

Jude is directed by Edward Hall and it will be his final production as Artistic Director at Hampstead Theatre.

Isabella Nefar stars as Jude alongside Paul Brennen, Merch Husey, Caroline Loncq, Luke MacGregor, Shanaya Rafaat, Anna Savva and Emily Taaffe.

Remember to let Jude into your theatre heart when it opens on 23 April.
