It should be the pinnacle of every actor’s career: heading into a massively successful, riotously funny, Olivier Award-winning comedy in the West End. But for the unlucky bunch joining the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society – also known as the new cast for The Play That Goes Wrong – they’ll probably celebrate by taking out new accident insurance policies, as the ingenious, chaotic and madcap show stumbles on at the Duchess Theatre.

Attempting to avoid falling props, falling sets – and just plain old falling over – from Tuesday 26 February will be: Kazeem Tosin Amore as Robert; Jake Curran as Chris; Catherine Dryden as Annie; Bobby Hirston as Max; Benjamin McMahon as Dennis; Gabriel Paul as Trevor; Steven Rostance as Jonathan; and Elena Valentine as Sandra.

They’ll be joined by understudies David Kristopher Brown, Liam Horrigan, Matthew Howell, Louisa Sexton, and Laura White. Let’s just hope all’s alright on the night.

The Play That Goes Wrong is Mischief Theatre’s world-conquering, disaster-fuelled comedy about a theatrical company whose time under the spotlights doesn’t exactly go entirely to plan. They’re trying to stage a 1920s murder mystery – but before the final curtain falls, everything that can go wrong… does!

The multi-award-winning show has not only won barrages of laughter but also a Tony Award for its two-year run on Broadway. It’s one of theatre’s most famous rags-to-riches stories, as its first performance was attended by only four paying customers – since then, it has played to an audience of over two million.

The Play That Goes Wrong is the brainchild of Mischief Theatre, the group behind The Comedy About A Bank Robbery, who recently announced plans for a year-long residency at the Vaudeville Theatre, opening with brand-new comedy, Groan Ups.

The Play That Goes Wrong is currently booking at the Duchess Theatre until 27 October 2019.
