The Phantom Of The Opera's Celinde Schoenmaker

Audience Award 2016: Phantom

First Published 4 March 2016, Last Updated 11 March 2016

A mysterious masked man and a singer with extraordinary talent. The Phantom Of The Opera is arguably Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most loved musical; romantic, frightening, powerful and dramatic with a glossy coating of sparkling costumes, stunning sets and, of course, that all-important gondola.

Based on Gaston Leroux’s gothic novel, the musical conjures the magical story of the Phantom and his persuasive powers that cast a spell over the beautiful singer Christine Daaé.

Not surprisingly the show, which is in the running for 2016’s Magic Radio Audience Award at the Olivier Awards 2016 with MasterCard has history and is already a proud multiple Olivier Award winner. Following the show’s premiere in 1986 it was awarded the much coveted Best New Musical Award, while its very first Phantom Michael Crawford took Best Actor in a Musical. In 2002 it returned to Olivier Award glory as the first ever recipient of the Audience Award.

Watch the video above to see the show’s current Christine Celinde Schoenmaker explain why 2016 would be a particularly special year for Phantom to triumph once again…

The Phantom Of The Opera is booking at Her Majesty’s Theatre to 1 October. You can book tickets through us here.
