Tony Award-winning rock musical American Idiot will return to the Arts Theatre this summer starring X Factor’s Amelia Lily and double platinum selling artist Newton Faulkner.

The Green Day musical wowed audiences last summer when it made its West End debut at the Arts Theatre. Lily will reprise her role as Whatsername when it rocks back up at the venue for a summer season from 8 July to 25 September.

Featuring some of Greenday’s best loved songs from their album of the same name including 21 Guns and Wake Me Up When September Ends, the gritty musical tells the story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9/11 world.

Directed and choreographed by Racky Plews, Faulkner will make his West End debut as the show’s leading man Johnny.

The recording artist behind hit albums Hand Built By Robots and Human Love will be joined in the company by current touring cast members Lily, Cellen Chugg Jones, Jemma Geanaus, Alexis Gerred, Llandyll Gove, Karina Hind, Emma Housley, Lawrence Libor, Lucas Rush, Steve Rushton and Alice Stokoe.

In its four star review of the show’s 2015 Arts Theatre run, The Telegraph described the musical as crashing “through the barriers of the traditional musical set-up”, commenting:. “With its wit and warmth it is likely to win over traditional theatregoers. To paraphrase Green Day: it’s something unpredictable, but you might just have the time of your life.”
