It’s certainly looking like a busy year ahead for Adam Cooper. Having just this morning been announced as returning to Singin’ In The Rain next year, he’s also amongst initial casting announced for the return of Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes, alongside original star Ashley Shaw.

The double Olivier Award-winning masterpiece is coming back to Sadler’s Wells this Christmas, playing there between Tuesday 3 December 2019 and Sunday 19 January 2020 as part of a UK tour.

Adam’s performance with Matthew Bourne’s company, New Adventures, will be his first in more than 20 years, playing the iconic impresario Boris Lermontov. Adam previously created the iconic role of ‘The Swan’ in 1995 in Matthew’s world-famous production, winning numerous awards, before going on to create ‘The Pilot’ in Bourne’s iconic Cinderella. He’s subsequently made a number of West End appearances including starring in Singin’ In The Rain.

Ashley, meanwhile, will be returning to the role of Victoria Page, having originated it in The Red Shoes’ 2016 world premiere season. She’ll be joined by returning performers Dominic North as Julian; Liam Mower as Ivan; Michela Meazza as Irina; Glenn Graham as Grischa; and Cordelia Braithwaite, who also plays Victoria Page.

The Red Shoes returns to London later this year, having won the Best Entertainment and Family Olivier at the 2017 ceremony, as well as Best Theatre Choreographer for Matthew.

Set to the gloriously romantic music of golden-age Hollywood composer Bernard Herrmann, the show adapts the legendary film about obsession, possession – and one girl’s dreams of becoming the greatest dancer in the world.

Tickets are available through the Sadler’s Wells website.
